PENNY CARNIVAL For Mission's Fund Raiser
On Friday
evening, May 27, 2005, an enthusiastic group gathered
at The Salvation Army to raise money for the Partners in Mission appeal.
Everyone brought some food and three items to be auctioned off.
The buffet table looked inviting with a variety of casseroles and salads
and more desserts than it would be possible to consume. No one objected
to paying $4 for their plate. The price included the delicious food and
a time of lively conversation around the tables.
The auctioneer, Lieutenant Dwight Miller, was assisted by a young girl from
our church who decided on what item would be auctioned next.
While most items went for $1 or $2, there was lively bidding on some puzzles
and a pot of forget-me-nots. A plate, with a picture of a cow on it,
went up in value when the auctioneer gave a robust
mooooooo !
Even at the end of the evening, several people dug deep into their pockets
for the privilege of taking home some of the tempting deserts—rhubarb pie,
apple cake, sticky buns, tarts.
In total $240 was raised to be used to help finance the work of
The Salvation Army in countries where money is scarce.
Thousands of families will benefit from our hospitals, schools and
community health programs in the coming year.
Thank you to all who
participated.
